Special Occasions

St Andrew's is the parish church of the village of Paull, in a joint parish with St Augustine's Hedon, and is available for baptisms, weddings and funerals for people who live in those parishes. For details of fees etc. or to make arrangements or any other enquiries, please contact the Vicar, whose details are on the Contacts page from the link in the menu to the left.

Baptisms (Christenings) : all babies, and indeed anyone of any age, can be baptised in the Church of England. The parents do not have to be regular churchgoers, for the Church believes that God's love is available to all, regardless of their background. Baptisms at St Andrew's, and most other parish churches. usually take place in the church's main Sunday service because they are a public declaration that your child has become part of the church family. Contact the vicar if you wish to arrange a baptism.

Weddings : St Andrew's is a beautiful church in a beautiful situation and so has attracted enquiries from couples from outside the parish : it is possible to get married in a church outside your parish but you would need to ask the vicar several months in advance as there are licenses to apply for and you would need a good reason for the request - just wanting nice wedding photos is not a good enough reason! Click here for more information on the different options available to you (off-site link.)

For couples where at least one of them lives in the parish it is straightforward : most weddings take place after the publication of banns of marriage, where the banns are read out in church during a normal service for three Sundays during the three months before the wedding - they need to be read out in the parish churches of both partners.  Banns are an announcement of your intention to marry and a chance for anyone to put forward a reason why the marriage may not lawfully take place. Most weddings are planned well in advance but even so, the first thing to do is contact the vicar and book the church!

Funerals : everyone has the right to a funeral in their parish church even if they were not a churchgoer. If you wish to arrange a funeral at St Andrew's please contact the vicar before making any other arrangements to make sure he is available on the date you have chosen; you should then inform your undertaker who will be able to make all the necessary arrangements for you.
